WHITENESS: OR THE TOP 20 WHITEST STATES AND THEIR DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY VOTING PROCLIVITIES
Sick of all the blather about Obama and “white people,” I did a quick jaunt around the dataweb, downloaded some Census numbers and compared with election results. This table is sorted by whiteness as measured using Census numbers on race and the percent that are “white only.”
Fact: Obama has won 13 out of the 18 whitest states.
Fact: Ranked by whiteness alone, Obama has won 8 of the top 10 whitest states.
Fact: If you take the top 20 whitest states and sort by delegates (roughly equivalent to population), Obama wins 7 out of the top 10.
Fact: Obama has won 361 to Clintons 278 pledged delegates from the top 20 whitest states.
If I were more than just an a-hole with a laptop, maybe I would run a regression on such terms as education, poverty rate, per capita hate crimes, evangelical rate, and so forth. Because the truth of the matter is that Obama does not have a problem with white people, but rather, that racists have a problem with Obama. Are the white folks of Kentucky and West Virginia more “hard-working” than the white folks of Kansas, Utah, and Minnesota? Or are they simply more racist?
